Still one of my favourite camping spots well worth the drive from Sydney. The pagoda formations elevate your view above all the campsites and there are lots of campsites to enjoy, over 80 and they are spread comfortably around the bend of the river. We've been 4 times now and have enjoyed it equally each time.
There's firewood available, fire-pits and clean bush toilets. With Southern Cross Kayaking you're able to hire Kayaks or enjoy their tours on school holidays.
There's not a lot of walks, the Pagoda Lookout is well worth it. The weir walk is interesting though this time it was a little smelly.
Kids love exploring the pagodas which are like mini Bungle Bungles.
There's swimming to enjoy and Kookaburra beach is the best spot to enter the water.
Mobile reception in the campsite is non existent, if you walk up The Pagodas in the middle get one bar of 3G on Telstra and you get more on the Pagoda lookout and the walk near the Weir.
Beautiful campgrounds with ample facilities (toilet at each camp area, picnic tables, fire pits) and stunning surrounds to boot. Try to camp near the water (follow the “boat ramp” sign)
What a special place. Can imagine gets very busy / becomes a bit of a zoo during holiday periods.
We had it on a Monday and we’re the only group by the water. Magic!
Dunns swamp, or Ganguddy as it is known to local Aboriginal people, is a beautiful, serene waterway on the Cudgegong river in Wollemi National Park. The waterway was created when Kandos weir was built in the late 1920s.
Set up camp amid picturesque woodlands of scribbly gum and striking pagoda rock formations and settle in for a truly tranquil getaway. Keen eyes may turn up wallabies, purple swamp hens and, at night, greater gliders. If you’re really lucky, you might glimpse shy long-necked turtles and platypus in the weir.
Ganguddy is perfect for a range of low-key recreational activities, from birdwatching and fishing to canoeing and swimming. You’ll also find a network of easy walks offering expansive views over the Cudgegong river, including Pagoda Lookout walking track.
This idyllic setting is great for car-based family camping so pack your tent or bring a small caravan. With wood barbecues on site you can hook dinner with your fishing line and and cook up a camping feast under the stars
Beautiful site in pristine bushland. The rock formations through the middle of the site are spectacular. Even the drive in is really something special.
As you would expect in a National park, the entire place is unpowered, and it’s also carry in water, so be prepared for both.
Kids will not get bored as there is plenty to do, try kayaking (there’s a place you can hire from), or there’s a wall that can also take you up over the rock formations and along the waters edge to the dam, which is definitely worth it.
We enjoyed the walk to the Pagoda Lookout. We didn't get to the top but still found wonderful views to photograph and even saw a Lyre Bird.
Very nice place for a walkabout. Lots of things to see. If you're fond of nature then this is one that you don't want to miss. Plenty of camping spots around the lake. Bring your kayak or fishing gear.
There is a primitive toilet but no trash bins that we've noticed so bring your own trash bags and expect to take your waste home with you.
A great campground for groups with multiple campsites to choose from. There are some beautiful, well marked walks around the campsite. The picnic areas have a great view of the lake. I’d suggest watching the sunrise or sunset by the water. Be prepared, if you’re arriving in a group, there is no mobile reception at the campground. The site is easily accessible by car. To avoid scratching the bottom of your car or getting stuck, I’d suggest taking a FWD or SUV because the road to some campsites have big potholes or are uneven.
Lovely camping or picnic spot. The jike to to Weir has some amazing views. Make sure to book online if your staying the night. There is usually free firewood but you can contact the rangers to be sure.
